Poppies are popping!
The cheery Arizona poppies (Arizona caltrop, orange caltrop, summer poppy) are blooming, thanks to the summer rainy season. This shot was taken in Catalina State Park on August 20, 2011. When a poppy is not fully open, it has a bowl-like shape that catches the morning sun and glows brightly. Some hairy buds are visible in this shot.
