My baby sister married the guy I set her up with. She used to hate him, actually, because when he joined our jui-jitsu dojo he turned out to be a Jackie Chan-like superstar and could thump her with ease. But she also acknowledged he was pretty cute, and once I set them up it was like the stars aligned.
They had a destination wedding on Kauai when I was finishing my second year of residency. She chose me for her maid-of-honor, just as her fiance picked his brother as his best man.
To my surprise, my previously high-strung, high-maintenance, princess of a sister was ridiculously calm about the whole thing. She let me make my own dress after assigning a color. She didn't even mind me showing off my new Indian elephant tattoo. It's cool to have seen her grow up into the woman she is now.
