Yellow-footed squirrel (Paraxerus cepapi), Etosha Pan, Namibia

Here munching on one of the ubiquitous mopane leaves in this region. Also known as Smith's bush squirrel or simply tree squirrel in South Africa, the yellow-footed squirel is native to southern and eastern Africa.

Adults measure up to 35 cm in length, including the tail.

The habitat is generally savanna woodlands and they are often found in regions with trees like mopane that have suitable nesting holes.

They are mostly vegetarians, eating leaves, seeds, flowers, nuts and occasionally insects.

Yellow-footed squirrels are diurnal and live in territorial family groups.
