Village of Saint Emilion, France
As noted elsewhere, Bordeaux is arguably the world capital of wine, so no trip to the city would be complete without a visit to the vineyards surrounding it. We visited two châteaux near the small village of Saint Emilion to the east of the city. The vineyards in the environs of the village tend to grow largely the Merlot grape variety, whereas to the north of the city in the Médoc district the soil apparently favours (as do I) the Cabernet Sauvignon grape.
