Bordeaux Bourse
Undoubtedly the city's most recognisable and emblematic building is the bourse = the stock exchange. This elegant structure was erected in the mid-18th century. It was paid for with the wealth acquired from Bordeaux's role as the major port city on the River Garonne and an importer of coffee, cocoa and sugar, as well as ftom the profits from slave trading.
The shallow pool in front of the building is of a recent date and is known as the Miroir.
