Atlantic puffins (Fratercula arctica) in flight, Skomer Island

.... returning to their nesting burrows on this uninhabited Welsh island. One bird carries a precious cargo of sand eels to feed its chick. A survey in 2020 estimated that there were 34,796 birds on the 3.2 kilometre-long island.

The Atlantic puffin breeds along the coasts of northwest Europe, Iceland and Atlantic North America.
