Spotted sandpiper (Actitis macularius), Tobago Plantations, Tobago

The spotted sandpiper also patrols the lily pads. On this bird the black belly spots of breeding plumage have not yet arrived. Note the invasion of the dreaded "Nile cabbage" between the pads. Aka water hyacinth (Pontederia crassipes), it chokes waterways worldwide, although here it is not certain it can be considered invasive, as it is a South American native.
