Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus), in mangrove swamp, Tobago Plantations, Tobago

A remarkable find in the gloom of the swamp, since it is a species associated with open country. The American subspecies breeds in northern Canada and Alaska and is here still in its winter quarters. Most birds on Tobago are present only from August to November.
