Black-crowned night-heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), Tobago Plantations, Tobago

One inhabitant of the mangrove swamps, at least during daylight hours, is the black-crowned night-heron. This juvenile is distinguished from the very similar yellow-crowned juvenile by the more boldly spotted wing coverts, the yellow lower mandible and the paler crown. A cosmopolitan species, found in every continent except Australasia.
