Male black-faced grassquit (Melanospiza bicolor), Tobago Plantations, Tobago
On the manicured lawns of the hotel, this tiny unassuming bird, all of 11.5 cm long, finds seeds. Whilst it may look finch-like, its assignment has been a matter for scientific debate. It has recently been assigned to the tanager family. It has a limited range, breeding on most Caribbean islands, the Bahamas and along the northern coast of South America.
