Female red-crowned woodpecker (Melanerpes rubricapillus), Tobago Plantations, Tobago

Another denizen of the woodlands at the Plantations is the diminutive red-crowned woodpecker (18 cm long), although it does have a preference for coconut palms, as here. It has a restricted range, from Costa Rica to Suriname. Curiously it is absent from Trinidad.
