Dall's sheep (Ovis dalli), on a ridge in the Alaska Range, Central Alaska

A wild sheep native to the mountains of Alaska, Yukon Territory and British Columbia. The horns are used more to establish hierarchy than to win ewes. William Dall was a US naturalist. Note the patterned ground caused by frost heave in the thawing and refreezing of the surface layer of the permafrost. Pebbles are assembled into distinct patches. From a slide taken in summer.
