Common gallinule (Gallinula galeata), Fort DeSoto, Florida
An abundant bird in American wetlands. This species has been split from the Old World moorhen (G. chloropus) on the grounds of slight differences in bill shape and vocalisations. They seem to me to be rather flimsy grounds for the creation of a new species, but presumably there is DNA evidence to back it up.
