Endless emptiness -- Namib Desert near Walvis Bay, Namibia

The Namib Desert stretches uninterrupted up to 160 km inland from the Namibian coast, the only true desert in southern Africa. A few small reptiles, the odd oryx or ostrich are pretty much the only inhabitants of this pristine nothingness, where precipitation is less than 6 mm a year. From a slide.
