Small tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae), Gloucestershire
Small tortoiseshells are attracted to blooms at each end of the visible light spectrum, i.e. red, and as here, violet. They can frequently be found feeding on buddleia nectar. Distributed throughout the Palaearctic, but breeding success severely impaired by drought.
