Karer See, South Tirol
On the slopes of the Latemar range (2842m) in the Dolomites, this small alpine lake with vivid colours is fed by snow melt, and has been admired by artists for over a century. The name probably comes from the German Kar, meaning a depression high in the mountains, equivalent to a corrie in Scotland. From a slide taken in 1967.
