Fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) in an Alaskan coniferous wood
Location probably near Hope, Kenai Peninsula. Difficult to believe how pure red the cap of this mushroom is until you have actually seen it. The species is native throughout the boreal and temperate Northern Hemisphere. It is generally considered poisonous although apparently it MAY be possible to eat it after boiling. Do NOT try this at home ! The skin also has hallucinogenic properties. From a slide.
