Scopoli's shearwater (Calonectris diomedea), off Cabrera, Balearic Islands
The taxonomy is currently confusing. This species has been split from Cory's shearwater (C. borealis), which is now considered to breed only on the Azores, Madeira and the Canaries. Scopoli's breeds on islands throughout the Mediterranean. By great good fortune, this shot shows the main distinguishing feature of Scopoli's quite well: the dark fringe to the white underwing is much narrower than on Cory's.
