Gymnadenia conopsea (fragrant orchid), Kenfig National Nature Reserve, Wales
Walk among the dunes at Kenfig and occasionally you will come across a purple orchid spike that does not belong to a pyramidal. Note the dense inflorescence, the somewhat concealed very long flower spurs (most visible at bottom left), then smell the flowers. If they smell like a whore's boudoir (not speaking from personal experience, of course!) then you have identified a fragrant orchid. This species prefers the drier, sandier parts of the reserve.
Down at the bottom right there is a bright yellow bug, with a huge abdomen and cartoon-like face. Any entomologist out there care to enlarge the image and identify it ?
