Bee beetle (Trichius fasciatus), on wild rose (Rosa canina), Kenfig National Nature Reserve, Wales

This uncommon species of scarab beetle has hairy body parts and could easily be mistaken for a bumble-bee. It actually eats the petals of roses rather than their nectar. It might be regarded as quintessentially Celtic since the great majority of records come from Wales and northern Scotland.
