Adult male pied wagtail (Motacilla alba yarrellii) in breeding plumage, with booty, Nagshead, Gloucestershire
This is a distinctive subspecies of the white wagtail (M.a.alba) endemic to Britain and Ireland. (The white wagtail of Continental Europe is much paler with a grey back.) Some authorities have accorded it full species status as Motacilla yarrellii.
This is a very active species and patience is required to capture it in the right pose.
