Rüppell's korhaan (Eupodotis rueppellii), Namib Desert, Namibia

This was a brief sighting near Sossus Vlei; the bird fled rapidly into the rocky desert. Rüppell's korhaan is a member of the bustard family and a Namibian near-endemic. The Afrikaans 'korhaan' means literally: cooing cockerel, although the bird's vocalisations are more similar to the croaking of a frog.
