Strokkur geyser erupts, southwest Iceland

The geyser typically erupts every 6–10 minutes. Its usual height is 15–20 metres, although it can sometimes shoot boiling water to a height of 40 metres. This is an area of high geothermal activity in Iceland. Just 50 metres away is the original Geysir, from which we get the word geyser in the English language.
