Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), Homer, Alaska

This was a chance encounter, a bird found perched on one of the many dead tree trunks that can litter some Alaskan beaches. It was apparently looking for dead fish. The species feeds mainly on freshwater or saltwater fish. Breeds throughout North America. From a slide, made in July some years ago with a high-ISO Kodachrome film.
