Male violet-tailed sylph (Aglaiocercus coelestis), near Nanegalito, northwestern Ecuador

This hummingbird species is confined to the moist forests of the Andes, only in Colombia and Ecuador, only between about 900 and 2000 m altitude. The male is about 18 cm long including tail. Photographed here in the cloud forest zone of the western slope of the Ecuadorean Andes.
