Dark-backed woodquails (Odontophorus melanonotus) -- two adults and one juvenile -- Tandayapa Valley, Ecuador
This shy and secretive forest species, related to pheasants and partridges, is globally threatened. It occurs only in Ecuador and Colombia and is endangered by deforestation. I was able to find it only with the assistance of a local guide. Note the high ISO due to the gloomy woodland situation.
