Pied wagtail (Motacilla alba), Skomer Island, Wales
This is an adult male of the white wagtail subspecies of Britain and Ireland, M. a. yarrellii. Its more black-and-white plumage has earned it the vernacular name of pied wagtail. Pied wagtails seem to prefer short-grass habitats for their foraging for insects, as here at the Skomer visitor centre.
