Ceps or penny bun mushrooms (Boletus edulis), for sale in San Gimignano, Tuscany

For me these are the tastiest of all mushroom species. As far as I know, they cannot be cultivated, but must be collected in the wild. What a treasure to behold! One can only hope that during their collection the subterranean mycelium is not disturbed so that it can continue to produce the precious fruit in the years to come.
