Ca' Loredan and Ca' Farsetti, Grand Canal, Venice, by night
The Farsetti palazzo on the right dates from the 13th Century. Ca' Loredan is on the left. Ca' is apparently the Venetian name for the small palaces wealthy families built for themselves in past centuries. The architecture of the palaces -- and of Venice generally -- is heavily influenced by Venetian trading contact with Byzantine and Islamic civilisations. 120327 195
