Double-banded courser (Smutsornis africanus), Etosha Pan, Namibia

A bird of open country in East and southern Africa. It relies to a great extent on camouflage to escape detection and runs rather than flies from predators. Feeds on insects like beetles and termites. Lays a single egg on the ground -- no nest.
