The tricky part of photographing any black and white bird is getting the exposure right for both the black and the white plumage. Here the problem is largely avoided in that the bird is facing away from the camera, but we must still be able to distinguish the dark eye from the rest of the plumage and the white loral stripe should not distract too much.
Razorbills breed mainly along the coasts of the North Atlantic, with populations in North America, Iceland, the United Kingdom and Scandinavia.
