Blue-grey tanager (Thraupis episcopus), Arima Valley, Trinidad

Tanagers are the second most numerous bird family in the world with about 240 species, mostly in South America. The word "tanager" may sound very English but it comes in fact from the Amazonian lndian language Tupi. This is the Trinidad subspecies of the blue-grey, nesophilus, with a paler head.
