David Victor says: Myrtle Warbler, St. Clair Metropark, Michigan, USA Wonderful capture... I love how the photograph captures the bird mid-song. I also like how the warbler here is naturally framed by the branch and twigs.

David Victor says: Song Thrush, Marton Mere, Blackpool, Lancashire, England I love how this photograph has caught the thrush in full song, but even more I love how the branch and the bird form an angle that sweeps my eye to the center the up and out of the frame. Nice shot.

David Victor says: Male Eastern Bluebird, Rose Hill, Alexandria, Virginia, USA What a beautiful photograph -- I enjoy the echo of the orangish-brown of the bluebird's breast in the organish-brown on the tree. This photo has captured the bird in full-throated song most wonderfully framed by the bokeh effect of the background. Lovely indeed.

David Victor says: Robin. Wigan Metropolitan Borough, England. What perfect timing and the bokeh colors so set off the colors of the robin itself. Beautiful photograph!

David Victor says: I love how this photograph captures the warbler in full song. The sheer sheet of blue sky as a backdrop only heightens the effect of the bird's striking yellow feathers and the little fellow's wild abandon. Adams, Wisconsin, USA.

David Victor says: Eastern Meadowlark, Kenansville, Florida. This photo works well in so many ways. First is the subject of the little lark in full song. Then there is how the wooden post top echoes the dark back and side plumage, in such a way that the yellow breast contrasts brilliantly. I also admire how the lines of the bird and post form a zig-zag the brings my eyes down and across the image from top to right to left to bottom. Finally, the bokeh effect is just the right color to blend the browns and blacks and yellows of the ultra-clear feathers and weathered wood. Just a truly admirable capture.

David Victor says: Whitethroat, Achim, Niedersachsen, Germany. This is a marvelous photograph. The little bird's mouth wide open is captured so perfectly that I can almost here the song. Then there is the sweep of the branch that draws one's eye across and up over the picture. The blurring bokeh of the background makes the image pop as well. Finally, it is lovely how the browns of the berries echoes the brown plumage of the bird.

David Victor says: Pinal, Arizona, United States. This beautiful photograph. has captured the cardinal at just the right moment, so that the song is almost audible. The depth of the red feathers and the beautiful bokeh background only serve to enhance the shot.

David Victor says: Prothonotary warbler (Protonotaria citrea) Beidler Forest Audubon Center Sanctuary, Harleyville, South Carolina This is as perfect a shot of a singing bird that I can imagine. The spirit of the little warbler in full song is inspiring. This captured élan goes far beyond the technical aspects of the photo, although these merit comment as well: the clarity of the central image, the diagonal off-center movement of the branch, the beautiful pairing of the yellows and greens of the background bokeh with the yellow plumage of the bird and the green leaves with yellow highlights of the foreground leaves.
