David Victor says: Jaffa, Israel. There is something about the light in Israel that you manage to capture here. The sharpness of the exposure enhances the play of colors among the golden stones of the wall, the brightness of the blue sky and the green lushness of the vegetation all so different from the effect of the stark red and white of the lighthouse itself. Moreover, this is simply a very beautiful lighthouse on its own.

David Victor says: Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Classic lighthouse scene. Very nice play of the changing sky against the stolidity of the rocks and structure itself.

David Victor says: Ludington, Michigan, along Lake Michigan. The simplicity of this lighthouse is compelling on its own... it has an elegance all its own. This in turn is enhanced by the glowering Michigan sky that contrasts to the bright sun bouncing off of the structure itself.

David Victor says: Keflavik, Iceland. The Northern Lights are the natural world and the lighthouse is the manmade... yet here the natural world seems unreal while the lighthouse shines a light back to the real world. Wonderful shot.

David Victor says: Black Point (Tywyn Du), Anglesey, Wales, UK. Most photographed or not, I am glad that this particular photograph was taken. There is such a sense of otherworldliness here... that is hard to capture indeed.

David Victor says: Portland, Maine, USA. The sharp details of the rocks and lighthouse itself are stunning. The play of colors here too make this pretty much the classic ideal of what I hold in my mind as the perfect New England lighthouse.

David Victor says: Nassau, Bahamas. Beautifully evocative with the lighthouse shrouded in trees rather than fog and with the waves crashing on the rocks beyond.

David Victor says: Hinomisaki, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. The floodlights provide an otherworldly glow while the orange beam of the lighthouse itself seems to light the way back to the world as it is. Highly evocative. Beautiful photograph.

David Victor says: Pospoder, Brittany France. This shot has captured the crash of the waves perfectly, but what I most like here is how the rugged rocks in the foreground are echoed by the smooth rocks of the lighthouse, while each plays on the gray coloring of the other. Wonderful photograph!

David Victor says: Frutillar, Los Lagos Region, southern Chile. Quite a perspective. I love the fading color of the lighthouse paint against the intense blue of the sky here.

David Victor says: Macquarie Heads lighthouse, Tasmania, Australia. This photo is beautiful... the repeating waves in the background mimic the pattern of the rocks on the spit leading out to the lighthouse... and the mountains merging into the mist echo the color of the water and the blue shadows on the white paint. Wonderful composition

David Victor says: Round Island, Michigan, Lake Huron. This is a beautiful photograph... the lighthouse itself is classic, but the angle of the spit of land draws your eye right to the subject and then your eye follows the reflection off of the frame. Wonderful composition here.

David Victor says: Ventspils Free Port, Latvia. The isolated splash of waves on the dark rocks echoes the white paint of the lighthouse perfectly here... and the dense fog of the background blur into the darker shades of the ocean in an appealing way.

David Victor says: St Peter Port Breakwater, Guernsey, Channel Islands. The water crashing over the wall throwing up its mist make the lighthouse seem all the more needed. What wonderful timing here. The light of the lighthouse seen straight on cuts straight out of the picture into the viewer. Wonderful photograph.
