David Victor says: Sipalay, Western Visayas, the Philippines.The clear evidence of how heavy the task is here is part of this photo's appeal... but there is so much more. The contrast of the bright red of the worker's shirt with the intense blue of the sky is another thing that makes this photo work so well. Finally, there is the look on the worker's face, somewhere between annoyance and suspicion... with a possible beginning of a smile makes me want to know what -- if any -- the response was tot he photographer.

David Victor says: Keisei Nippori station, Tokyo. I love this photo. The speeding blur of the train, the stationary bow of the worker... that alone would make it a favorite. But there is more -- the essential sense of the bow itself says so much about Japanese life. Wonderful shot.
