David Victor says:
This young dancer's face seems full of questions to me -- am I doing this right? do you see me, Dad? -- whether real or imagined, it is imagining what is behind the expression that so captures me in this photograph. The clarity of detail (not a blur in the feathers or beads, for instance) and the dark background that highlights the colors so well. And then there is the subject of dance as the theme here. The chicken dance of the northern plains tribes is itself notable... here apparently at the Hobbema PowWow of the Cree Nation located within the borders of Alberta.
David Victor says:
Wonderful expression on the lead dancer's face. Who or what is she looking at? Why? Is she waiting for a signal? Is she looking for someone who has been watching or will be watching?
And then there is the beautiful detail of the dresswork, the wreath in her hair and the clear contrast of light and shadow among the red beads.
The bokeh works well here... the other dancers blur into an Impressionists backdrop while both the blur of leaves in front and back to just focus on the lead dancers face.
I only wish that the photographer had geo-tagged this.
