Tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte

Hôtel national des Invalides (The National Residence of the Invalids)

This is a porphyry sarcophagus. Napoleon was interred here on 15 December 1840; he died in exile on 5 May 1821.

His remains are in six coffins, the first of tin, the second of mahogany, the third and fourth lead, the fifth of ebony, and the sixth of oak. That was all then placed in this massive red granite sarcophagus.
