Northern Pacific S6 750 Duluth MN 8-15-1968

Here's a shot of Northern Pacific S6 750 working at Rices Point Yard in Duluth August 1968. This Alco switcher is doing what Alcos do best...Smoke. The 750 was built in May 1955 and was retired as BN 950 in June 1972. The 950 was later converted to a slug by the Columbia and Cowlitz, becoming CLC 701b. The 750 was the only S6 rostered by the NP and BN and worked most of its career in Duluth, relocated here in the late 50s from Fargo-Dilworth. The 750 could be distinguished from its sibling S2 and S4 switchers by the forward facing radiator grill and larger exhaust stack. Duluth, MN August 15, 1968. James Claflin Kodachrome from my Collection.
