Soo Line RS27 415 and 416 St. Paul MN 9-2-1972
Here's a shot of Soo Line RS27s 415 and 416 leading a transfer at St. Paul MN September 1972. Both of these Alcos were built in April 1962 as the first new motive power purchased by the "New" Soo Line, the combined system of the original Soo Line, Original Wisconsin Central and DSS&A formed in January 1961. These two units garnered the nickname "The Dolly Sister", due in part to Alco's official model number for the RS27, DL-640. There was also a performing act of two sisters from the 1920s called the Dolly Sisters. During the 60s these could be seen running all over the Soo Line system, either together or apart, but after their reliability issues started to show they were reassigned to transfer service in the Twin Cities. The Dolly Sisters were most often used on the St. Paul Transfer as strictly directed by the Soo Line power desk. St. Paul, MN September 2, 1972. Unknown Photographer Original Slide from my Collection.
