Milwaukee Road E9A 35C Wisconsin Dells WI 7-12-1969
Here's a shot of Milwaukee Road E9A 35C leading the Afternoon Hiawatha through Wisconsin Dells WI July 1969. The 35C was built in May 1956 as Milwaukee Road 205C and was transferred to Amtrak in 1971, becoming AMTK 410. The Afternoon Hiawatha trains were discontinued by the Milwaukee on January 30, 1970 while the morning train lasted until April 30, 1971, a day before Amtrak began operations. These trains were both officially known as Twin Cities Hiawathas, running between Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul. This photo shows that at one time the Dells actually had a feed mill. I for one thought the Dells was always a tourist destination and didn't really have an industrial side. Wisconsin Dells, WI July 12, 1969. Unknown Photographer Duplicate Slide from my Collection.
