Milwaukee Road GP9m 983 Duluth MN 10-7-1977

Here's a shot of Milwaukee Road GP9m 983 resting at Rices Point Yard in Duluth October 1977. The 983 was built as GP9 2411 in June 1954, later renumbered to 226. The 226 was rebuilt in February 1970 into GP20 983 and was retired in December 1982. The Milwaukee Road rebuilt a number of GP9s into what the Milwaukee called a "GP20", not to be confused with the actual EMD GP20 model. The first batch of these rebuilds from 1969/70 had the numberboards located in the low nose while later rebuilds had them above the windshield. Duluth, MN October 7, 1977. Unknown Photographer Ektachrome from my Collection.
