sous la pluie battante...
"in the pouring rain..." in French.
It was a gloomy day for a photo shoot at Morris Bridge Park as twilight approached. Rain was starting to fall even as I arrived, followed by lightning. While I was getting my camera gear out of my car, the Park Ranger stopped by in his truck and commented, "You're not going out in the rain, are you?" I replied, "Maybe just a little." So with umbrella in hand, I trekked out down the trail alongside the creek as the ranger parked at the site in disbelief. Suddenly, there was a big crash of lightning followed by a howling wind and pouring rain.
I had my 6-stop neutral-density filter with me... not sure why, but it worked out great. I was able to take long-exposure shots in the pouring rain, making the rain look like silk. To shield myself and my camera from the rain, I crouched under my oversized umbrella with my camera resting low to the ground on a tripod, .
This shot was a 25-second exposure. Even with the umbrella, my camera got wet, and a few minutes later, the ND lens had too many water drops on it to be functional, so I removed it and had a clean lens for my later shots at the park, before that lens ALSO got too wet to be functional.
Overall, a very different and adventurous shoot at the nature park, resulting in some unique shots I was not expecting. :)
