Secret Santa's
So I'm hiking in a place I've never been and hadn't intended on going and I see a trail going up and just have to know where it goes. As I'm climbing I realize that I'm looking at the trail, not so much the woods. It's immaculate, well thought out, if you look closely you can see rebar nailed behind logs and rocks, subtle lashings holding trees, the thing looked swept while the surrounding hillside was a MESS of debris from winter. I was astounded and thought that the WTA must have had a work party here TODAY, it was so well kept. Then I come around a corner and there is one guy shoring up a giant rock that had fallen into the trail. We talked for quite a bit and he reluctantly told me that he and another guy made these trails, but he swore me to secrecy on where they were and I can't repeat his name. His eyes glowed as he described where these went and even as we talked and he pointed around with great animation he would stoop and pick up a stray stick. I was awed, So I'm posting this pick of a neatly stacked pile of rocks that shore up this rise in the trail and simple notch in a tree that gives solid purchase yet maintains the natural beauty laid out by nature so that maybe you folks can also admire the work of people behind the scenes that make all of this possible. My heart swells thinking about it, he's probably up there right now removing a downed tree.....
