Tragic Ending
This isn't anything epic, but I wanted to finish the story. At the trailhead it tells you that it leads to the Northrup homestead and that you are walking through Northrup Canyon and the history of how this family created irrigation in the desert to grow crops and made roads to deliver them to cities thus kick starting farming in this beautiful yet rugged land. The first house that you will see is the one built around 1930 when the kids return and then you come across this. In 1894 John Northrup's health declined and he leased out some of the land to a man named Israel Sanford. In 1901, not long after John's passing, Sanford murdered John's wife Catherine (Caty) in her lavatory over a growing land dispute. He was acquitted of the crime due to reasons of insanity due to his service in the Civil War but the land went back to the children at that point. Today these wrecks are now historic property, the bones were well constructed, but the subsequent additions and repairs were not. Don't know how much time they have left.
