RF 371 on route 227 Chislehurst - Penge 11th June 1969
RF 371 crossing Chislehurst Common on 11th June 1969. Route 227 then ran every 3-4 minutes in peak periods, Chislehurst - Penge, with only every third or fourth bus projecting to Crystal Palace. As conductor on the 227 a year earlier, I can testify that journeys would be quite full between Chislehurst town and the station, indeed a few additional shorts ran just between those points at the height of rush hour! 45 years later, route 162 runs at just 20 minute headway over that sector! The driver can be seen wearing his regulation summer dust jacket.
