NYC Mt. Carmel Tower
NYC (nee-CCC&StL) Mt. Carmel tower located at the crosiing of the Southern Railway as seen in 1968. Bob McCord took this great photo. Shows the NYC running bottom right to mid photo left and the Southern running bottom left to mid right. Mt. Carmel had 2 turntables (an old and new), shops, a nice depot and many facilities. This tower was run by NYC men. Mt Carmel was located at MP 127.4 (miles from Danville, Illinois). At Mt. Carmel, the NYC split-once section went to Evansville, Indiana and the other went to Cairo, Illinois. Office call for this tower was "TJ". I have collected a lot of great photos over the years of Mt. Carmel and it's one of my favorite NYC locations on the Egyptian line south of Danville, Illinois. I'll be posting some more pictures from the steam era and describing them as best as I can. I have never been to Mt. Carmel so I'm not really familiar with the town.
