Manipulation
Shown here is the manipulation chart for EJ&E's West Chicago tower as of June 20th, 2001. The "A" Plant was located north of the tower at the old C&NW(nee-CGW)/EJ&E crossing, which was at this time controlled from a newer modern box in tower, located on the lever bed. The "B" plant (hence the name "JB" tower) was the crossings of the EJ&E and the C&NW and CB&Q (removed by this time). The list of routes for the C&NW is lengthy as they had a 3-track mainline with 2 sets of crossovers, an interlocked industry switch and an interlocked yard lead switch that went 2 directions (one towards the yard and one towards the Belvidere sub). The tower had only 37 levers in use when I was working there but the leverbed had 54 pistol grip levers (1-39, and 100-115).
