The Riley at Sheff
New York Central westbound train #303, the "James Whitcomb Riley" is seen inside the plant at Sheff, Indiana on March 9th, 1956, with NYC 2-8-2 #149, NYC GP7 #5709 and 9 cars. Earl Park is in the distance and the westbound home signal can be seen over the 4th car. The transition period was a great time for photographs like this one. View is looking easterly, and the tower and Egyptian line would be behind the photographer. Train was due by Sheff at 11:25 am. The fireman who is on the tower side looks to be getting ready to grab orders. Train will continue through Sheldon, Kankakee and onto the IC to Chicago. This is now the KB&S. This photo is believed to be a Paul Meyer photo.
