The Hotel
The Hotel dates from 1850 was the original mansion at Portmeirion when Clough bought the estate. It was closed because of a wedding when we visited.
The fantasy village of Portmeirion is the dream child of architect Bertram Clough Williams-Ellis, who bought the promontory in 1925 for £5000. He had ideas of how he wanted the village to look – blending environmental concerns with architectural beauty. The village grew into what it is today between 1925 and 1976 - a showcase of architectural styles, with a surprise around every corner!
