Compassion Fatigue
Compassion Fatigue is the term made up by Warhol to name our general insensitivity towards images that should affect us, but fail to do so because we see them on a daily basis and from a distance. I first drew a group of visitors at some random axhibition, in their typical passive, contemplative and somewhat sluggish attitude. Then I confronted these same characters with images from the media, trying to give them a "pop" aspect. I am planning to do another series, on a bigger scale since this was basically a rough draft, picturing the spectators of a film in a theater. There too, they would only be seen from behind, so that no expression or sigh of human sensitiveness would show. They would watch clichés, that were originally beautiful or extraordinary things that turned common because they were overused, like a kiss under the rain, aliens landing or a sunset for instance. One of my biggest fears about art and daily life is of turning unable to experience feelings as vividly forever.
